coreFORCE - Products: Setting up Products with Variants and Options
coreFORCE Advanced and Enterprise Only
Product variants are different versions of a product that share the same core characteristics but differ in specific attributes such as color, size, or material. For example, a T-shirt might come in various colors and sizes, and each combination of these attributes is considered a variant. Setting up product variants allows customers to select their preferred options, ensuring they get exactly what they want.
Navigate to Products > Taxonomy > Options.
Create the options you want to offer for the product (e.g., Color, Size, Size Type).
For each option (e.g., Color), create the specific choices (e.g., Black, Navy Blue, OD Green, Coyote Tan).
Specify the sort order if you want the choices to appear in a particular sequence. The lowest number appears first. If the sort order is the same, the choices will be sorted alphabetically.
Go to Products > Taxonomy > Groups.
Create a group for the products that will have these options (e.g., Safe Life Defense Vests).
Enter a description and detailed description, and then select the options you created. The order of the options in the selection box matters as they will appear in that order on the product page (e.g., Color, Size, Size Type).
Navigate to Products > Products > Products.
Create the product variants you want to offer for sale. It’s easiest to create one exactly how you want it and then use the Duplicate button to create copies.
For ease of use, add the option choices to the end of the product code (e.g., SLD-IIIA-TAC-B-L-R for SLD-IIIA-TAC Black Large Regular).
It is not necessary to create every possible variant if you do not plan to stock all of them.
For special sizes, create a special order product using Product Addons.
Remove "Copy" from the duplicate product titles to avoid confusion for customers.
If you don't want each variant to show up in search results, check the "not searchable" flag in the details tab of a product.
Go to Products > Taxonomy > Group Variants.
Add a new variant for each product you created.
Select the Product Group (e.g., Safe Life Defense Vests), a product by typing the product code and pressing the Tab key to select it, and the product options that will select that product.
View these product variants on your front-end site.
You will see a series of dropdown lists allowing you to select the product based on the option choices.
- If you made all your product variants "Not searchable," make sure to uncheck this box for ONE of the variants so that it can be the "default" product.
