Sometimes there is not a system notification built in. However, in some cases you can accomplish creating specialized notifications with system actions. 

Example

Question:

Is it possible to get an email notification set up to email me if a distributor price goes below or above a specified dollar amount? 

Similar to what we have for quantity now.

Answer:

You can do this with an Action. Go to Tools->Actions->Actions. Add an action to send yourself an email when the cost of a product goes above or below you set amount.
