coreSTORE - Inventory: How to create a generic service item

This article will show you how to create a generic service item that can be used very flexibly through coreSTORE. We will show you how to create a service item that has no set price to be set during a sale and another that would have a set price.


Service Item With Set Price


In this example we will setup a Range Rental Fee with a set price per hour.


  1. Click Items in the Inventory sub-menu:

  1. Click the +New button in the upper right corner:

  1. Set the name and the category based on the Service Item you are creating, here we will call it Range Rental Fee and the category will be Fees

  1. In the Item Settings section of the item, make sure that Is Service is checked along with any other appropriate settings are active or inactive:

  1. Once the item settings are setup along with the name and category, click the Pricing tab at the top; changing the tab will save the information that has already been entered.

  1. Fill in, at least, the Cost (Without Tax) and Selling Price

  1. Click Save

Now when you add the Range Rental Fee to a sale you will be able to adjust the quantity to reflect the time that it was rented for. EX: You rent the range for $10 / hour and a customer wants to rent it for 4 hours; Add the Range Rental Fee to your sale and increase the quantity to 4.

Service Item Without Set Price


In this example we will setup a Range Damage Fee with no set price so the price can be adjusted as needed during the check out process.


  1. Click Items in the Inventory sub-menu:

  1. Click the +New button in the upper right corner:

  1. Set the name and the category based on the Service Item you are creating, here we will call it Range Rental Fee and the category will be Fees

  1. In the Item Settings section of the item, make sure that Is Service is checked along with any other appropriate settings are active or inactive:

  1. Click Save

  1. Add the Range Damage Fee to the sale and click on the Price of the item:

If either of your service items are not to be taxed, check the Override Default Tax on the pricing tab of the service item.

Once the Range Rental Fee or the Range Damage Fee have been entered you can complete the sale as normal.
