coreSTORE - Getting Started: Item Settings

This article will guide you through configuring item-specific settings in coreSTORE. These settings allow you to define default parameters for inventory items, including rental item permissions, age verification requirements, margin calculators, and default reorder levels. By customizing these options, you can ensure that your inventory management aligns with your business needs and operational procedures, resulting in more efficient and accurate inventory control.

Click on Settings

Dive into item details! To manage your inventory's nitty-gritty, head over to "Company" on the left-hand side navigation bar. From there, click on "Settings" to access a treasure trove of options for customizing how you handle specific items within coreSTORE.

Step 1 screenshot

Click on Items

Look for a sub-menu titled "Items". This will take you directly to the settings that control how you track and manage your products in coreSTORE.

Step 2 screenshot

Manage Categories

Finding your categories is a breeze! coreSTORE offers multiple ways to access your categories tree. This new option gives you another quick route to organize and manage your product categories.

Step 3 screenshot

Manage Tags

Inventory tags at your fingertips! These tags act like labels for your products, allowing you to segment your inventory for specific purposes.

Here are some ways inventory tags can be helpful:

Age restrictions: Clearly mark products requiring age verification.

Featured products: Highlight your hottest sellers or special promotions.

Top sellers: Identify your most popular items for easy tracking.

Plus, these tags can be synced with your e-commerce site, allowing for product filtering and segmented display on coreFORCE.

Number of Items Per Page

See more on your screen! The "Number of Items Per Page" setting within "Company > Settings > Items" controls how many products you see on each inventory search page. Consider increasing this number to 50 or 100 items per page. This lets you scan through more information quickly without needing to flip through multiple pages.

Step 5 screenshot

Default Reorder Level When Creating Items

Stay stocked with "Default Reorder Level"! Within "Company > Settings > Items" you'll find the "Default Reorder Level" option. This lets you set a minimum quantity you always want to have in stock for each product. When you create new items, this default reorder level will be automatically populated, saving you time and ensuring you don't run out of popular items.

Step 6 screenshot

Default Days To Expire When Creating Items

Heads up for perishables: "Default Days to Expire"! This setting within "Company > Settings > Items" might not be relevant for all your products. It's designed for managing perishable inventory. If you do have items with expiration dates, you can set a default number of days until expiry here. This will pre-populate that information when you create new perishable items in coreSTORE, helping you stay on top of stock freshness.

Step 7 screenshot

Default New Items As Service Items

Service-based business? Head to "Company > Settings > Items" to find the "Default New Items as Service Items" option. This setting is most useful if your business only offers services, not physical products. With this box checked, all new items you create will be automatically classified as services in coreSTORE. Otherwise, you can continue specifying service items manually at the product level for more granular control.

Step 8 screenshot

Rental Items

Turn on rentals! Thinking of offering rentals? Within "Company > Settings > Items", look for the "Rental Items" flag. Enabling this lets you mark specific items as rentals in coreSTORE. This unlocks the ability to set rental rates and manage your rental inventory effectively.

Step 9 screenshot

Highlight Low Inventory Items In Items Module

Never miss a low-stock moment! Enable "Highlight Low Inventory Items" within "Company > Settings > Items". This activates a handy visual cue in the items list. Products with low stock will be displayed with their name and quantity in red, making it easy to spot them at a glance. This helps ensure you prioritize reordering essential inventory before you run out.

Step 10 screenshot

Limit Manual Price Adjustments And Discounts

Safeguard your profits with price controls! Enable "Limit Manual Price Adjustments and Discounts" within "Company > Settings > Items". This security feature requires a manager's override password whenever someone tries to adjust the price or apply a discount that dips below a product's minimum set price. This helps prevent unauthorized price changes and protects your profit margins.

Step 11 screenshot

Enable Mark Up Calculator

Simplify pricing with the Markup Calculator! Enable "Enable Mark Up Calculator" within "Company > Settings > Items". This handy tool appears when you set item pricing. It allows you to easily calculate a selling price based on the product's cost and your desired markup percentage. This streamlines the pricing process and ensures consistency in your profit margins.

Step 12 screenshot

Enable Margin Calculator

Streamline pricing with the Margin Calculator! Enable "Enable Margin Calculator" within "Company > Settings > Items". This helpful tool appears when you set item pricing. It allows you to easily calculate a selling price based on the product's cost and your desired profit margin. This simplifies the pricing process and ensures you achieve your profitability goals.

Step 13 screenshot

Price By Serial Number

Unique pricing for unique items: Price by Serial Number!

Enable "Price by Serial Number" within "Company > Settings > Items". This gives you more control over pricing for serialized inventory, especially useful for pre-owned or unique items. Instead of a single price for the entire product, you can set individual prices for each item based on its specific serial number. This allows for flexible pricing strategies and reflects the value of each unique piece in your inventory.

Step 14 screenshot

Verify Age For Products

Age verification made easy: Verify Age for Products!

Enable "Verify Age for Products" within "Company > Settings > Items". This allows you to set age verification requirements for specific products at the individual item level. This provides more granular control over age restrictions within your store.

Step 15 screenshot

Default Age To Verify

"Default Age To Verify," within "Company > Settings > Items" This lets you establish a default age requirement that will automatically apply to any new product you create with age verification enabled. You can always adjust this setting on a product-by-product basis for more specific control.

Step 16 screenshot

Enable Auctions

Auctions coming soon!

The "Enable Auctions" setting is currently under development. We're busy building exciting auction integrations to bring you a powerful new way to sell your products in coreSTORE. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting feature!

Step 17 screenshot

Disable Online Store Lookup

Keep your searches focused: Disable Online Store Lookup

The "Disable Online Store Lookup" feature within "Company > Settings > Items" gives you control over inventory searches. With this enabled, your searches in the items, sales, and receiving screens will only look for existing items within your coreSTORE inventory.

Step 18 screenshot

Use Location Codes

Location awareness with Location Codes!

Enable "Use Location Codes" within "Company > Settings > Items" . This lets you assign unique location codes to each of your physical store locations (accessible under "Company" > "Locations").

Step 19 screenshot

Require Items To Use Subcategories

Organize your inventory with ease: Require Items To Use Subcategories!

Within "Company > Settings > Items" , when enabled, this ensures that products can only be assigned to categories that have subcategories themselves.

This approach helps maintain a clear and organized inventory structure. By keeping products in bottom-level categories, you avoid confusion and ensure easier navigation and search functionality within coreSTORE.

Step 20 screenshot

Enable Partial UPC Search

Expand your UPC search options: Enable Partial UPC Search!

Within "Company > Settings", you'll find the "Enable Partial UPC Search" option. When enabled, this broadens your search capabilities for items by UPC (Universal Product Code). It allows coreSTORE to return results even if your search term matches a portion of the UPC, not just the beginning.

Here's a heads-up: While this feature increases search flexibility, it can also slow down search results slightly due to the larger number of potential matches. Consider enabling it if you frequently need to find items based on partial UPC information.

Step 21 screenshot

Require Type For Items

Refine your inventory with Item Types (optional):

Within "Company Settings" (likely under Items), you'll find an option titled "Require Type for Items." This setting is optional and caters to businesses that prefer a more granular inventory structure.

What are Item Types?

Think of them as sub-categories for your products. By assigning item types, you can further segment your inventory beyond categories. This allows for more detailed organization and reporting, and in some cases compliance.

Here's the catch:

While item types offer powerful organization benefits, they're not mandatory for everyone. Consider enabling this feature if you have a large and diverse inventory, or if you find the extra level of detail helpful for managing your products. Otherwise, you can continue creating items without assigning specific types.

Step 22 screenshot

Click on Save

Don't forget to save your settings!

Once you've made your adjustments within , click on the "Save" button. This ensures your changes are applied and reflected throughout coreSTORE.
