Upcoming Update: Removal of the Penny & Cash Rounding in coreSTORE

As part of upcoming improvements to coreSTORE, we will soon be introducing support for cash rounding to align with regions that no longer use the penny. These updates are designed to make cash handling simpler and more accurate for both you and your customers.

Please note: These features are not live yet. This article is provided to help you understand what will be changing once the update is released.

Overview

Many businesses operate in areas where pennies are no longer in circulation. To accommodate this, coreSTORE will soon include a Cash Rounding feature that automatically rounds cash transactions to the nearest nickel (0.05).

This rounding applies only to cash payments and only when the feature is turned on.

What’s Changing

Cash Rounding Options

Once released, you will be able to choose how your system rounds totals on cash transactions. Options will include:

• Disabled (No Rounding)

Your totals remain unchanged. This is the default option.

• Round to the Nearest $0.05

Totals will round either up or down depending on which nickel value they are closest to.

• Example: 10.51 → 10.50
• Example: 10.53 → 10.55

• Always Round Up to $0.05

Totals always round up to the next nickel.

• Example: 10.51 → 10.55
• Example: 10.52 → 10.55

These settings will be available under Settings > Config > Sales once the update goes live.

Receipt Display Options

A new option will also be added to control how rounding appears on receipts:

• Hide Rounding Adjustment on Receipts

When enabled, the rounding line will be hidden from printed and emailed receipts while still applying the correct rounded total.

This option will be located in Settings > Config > Receipts when the feature becomes available.

When Rounding Applies

Cash rounding will apply only to:

• Cash payments
• The final total after all taxes and fees

Rounding will not apply to:

• Credit card payments
• Debit payments
• Store account payments
• Any non-cash payment methods

What Stores Can Expect

Once the update is released, stores will benefit from:

• Faster and simpler cash handling
• No longer needing pennies
• Clear display (or optional hiding) of rounding adjustments
• Accurate reporting that includes rounding details when enabled

These improvements ensure smooth, compliant transactions for businesses operating in penny-less regions.

These changes are currently in development and will be included in an upcoming coreSTORE update. We will announce the release date soon and provide a full walkthrough of the new settings once they are available in your system.
