About shipping charge exclusions in coreFORCE

In coreFORCE, shipping charges are calculated based on product type, availability, and location. However, in certain cases, shipping charges are excluded from calculation. This article explains the scenarios where shipping charges are intentionally skipped and the available preferences for managing exceptions.

1. Virtual products

If all items in the cart are flagged as virtual products (such as online courses or digital services), shipping charges are not applied. Since these products do not require physical delivery, the shipping calculation is automatically bypassed.

To set a product as virtual, select a product on the Products Maintenance page (Products > Products > Products), and then select the Virtual Product checkbox on the Details tab.

2. State-level restrictions

If any product in the cart is restricted from being shipped to a specific state, coreFORCE will not calculate shipping charges. This applies when:

  • A product is prohibited in the destination state.
  • The restriction is defined at the product, category, or department level.

Override options

Note: Override options are only available for coreFORCE Advanced users.

To bypass state-specific product restrictions, go to the Orders Settings page (Orders > Setup > Settings tab), and set the following options to True:

Setting

Description

Ignore product restrictions

Ignores all state-based product restrictions system-wide.

Ignore restriction <state code> products

Ignores restrictions for a specific state. For example, use Ignore restriction CA products to ignore restrictions in California.

3. Restrictions based on product, category, or department

Note: Restriction options are only available for coreFORCE Advanced users.

Shipping charges are not calculated if any of the following restrictions are present and match the shipping address:

Product-level restrictions

When a product has specific prohibited shipping locations (state, postal code, or country), shipping will be blocked and no charges will be applied.

Adding a product-level restriction

Note: Product-level restrictions are only available for coreFORCE Advanced users.

  1. On the sidebar, select Products > Products > Products.
  2. On the Products Maintenance page, select a product, and then select the Shipping tab.
  3. In the Prohibited Locations section, click the Add button.
  4. Specify the required information in the table.
  5. Click Save.

Category-level restrictions

Products associated with restricted categories will also prevent shipping charge calculation if the destination is in a prohibited location.

Adding a category-level restriction

Note: Category-level restrictions are only available for coreFORCE Advanced users.

  1. On the sidebar, select Products > Taxonomy > Categories.
  2. On the Product Categories page, select a category, and then select the Restrictions tab.
  3. In the Prohibited Locations section, click the Add button.
  4. Specify the required information in the table.
  5. Click Save.

Department-level restrictions

Departments can define their own restricted shipping zones. If a product belongs to such a department, the restriction applies.

Adding a department-level restriction

  1. For coreFORCE Advanced users, on the sidebar, select Products > Taxonomy > Departments. For coreFORCE Basic users, on the sidebar, select Products > Categories.
  2. On the Product Categories page or Product Category Maintenance page, select a category, and then select the Restrictions tab.
  3. In the Restricted Locations section, click the Add button.
  4. Specify the required information in the table.
  5. Click Save.
